Speer throwing bankruptcy by Julian Weber, good news from Christina Honsel and Imke Onnen in the high jump – and over 200 meters the top stars around Noah Lyles let the muscles play. The sixth competition day at an overview.
200 meters – Lyles goes one step further
Kenneth Bednarek from the USA showed a cool performance in the first semi -finals over 200 meters and stormed into the finals in 19.88 seconds. In the second run, the Jamaican Bryan Lvell (19.78) sprinted even faster – in the end he also let out.
But then US star Noah Lyles came. The Olympic champion over 100 meters pulled through fully and ran the fastest time of the three semi -finals with impressive 19.51 seconds.
Gone is the World Cup fairy tale for the only 17-year-old Gout Gout from Australia: The new Sprint wonderkind retired fourth of his lead with 20.36. The final showdown will increase on Friday from 3:06 p.m. (in the Livestream at Sportschau.de).
High jump – Honsel sure, onnen in happiness
Christina Honsel’s medal dream lives: with skipped 1.92 meters, she is in the final. For Imke Onnen it ended at 1.88 meters – but the jury filled the field of participants, so that the second German is also there.
The top favorites looked confidently: Nicola Olyslagers (Australia), Jaroslawa Mahutschich (Ukraine) or Angelina Topic (Serbia) had a clear air over the latte over 1.92 meters.
Spear throw – Weber far past the podium
Perhaps the largest German gold hope was not a good throw at the World Cup: Julian Weber clearly missed the podium in Tokyo. With 86.11 meters in the second attempt, the Mainz remained more than five meters behind his best performance this year.
Gold surprisingly won Keshorn Walcott from Trinidad & Tobago in 88.16 meters in front of Anderson Peters (Grenada/87.38) and Curtis Thompson (USA/86.67).
5000 meters – lead out for Burkard and Meyer
Elena Burkard and Lea Meyer clearly missed the final over 5000 meters at the start of the sixth competition. Burkard was able to keep up around 500 meters to a certain extent in the fight for the top eight in her lead, then she was passed through.
In the second round, Meyer kept up to the third last round before she also lost the connection after a pace sharpening at the top.
The fight for the medals increases on Saturday (2:29 p.m., in the live ticker at Sportschau.de). Tophavoritin Beatrice Chebet (Kenya) had the muscles playing and won the first round in 14: 45.59 minutes. Burkard reached the finish line with some delay in 15: 37.33 minutes, Meyer then ran well 15: 05.86 and became eleventh.
