The fifth day of the World Athletics World Cup in Tokyo has started a bitter message from a German perspective. OWE Fischer porridge cannot compete with his semi-finals over 400 meters of hurdles due to injury.

“OWE Fischer-Breholz tried everything together with the medical team, but it was not enough. OWE will not be able to start today,” said the communication of the German Athletics Association (DLV), which cited muscular problems in the right thigh flap as a reason.

The semi -finals over 400 meters hurdles start today at 2:30 p.m. (CEST, live in the first and at Sportschau.de). With Emil Agyekum, only one German runner is now there. Joshua Abuaku was excreted in the lead.

“Violation is too serious and the risk is too high”

“My first World Cup does not end as I dreamed of. But I am grateful for what gave me this season,” wrote Fischer-Breihol on Instagram and posted a broken heart symbol. “The whole medical and physio team did absolutely everything to get me back on track. But the injury is simply too serious and the risk is too high to start today.”

That was not the end that I wanted, but it is far from the end.

Already problems in the lead

Already in the World Cup in the World Cup on Monday, the thigh problems had affected the Mecklenburger, who has been training with Christian Kupper in Frankfurt since the end of 2024. Nevertheless, Fischer porridge ran third in 48.81 seconds and thus into the semi-finals.

In June, the German hurdle hope at his gold run at the U23 European Championship caused a stir when he cracked the championship record of Norwegian Karsten Warholm with his time of 48.01 seconds. In the world year’s best list he is tenth with this time. In Germany, only Harald Schmid was ever faster.

The 21-year-old has now thwarted his body’s dream of the World Cup final.
