Pole vault – world -class competition, duplantis breaks down

The World Athletics World Cup in Tokyo has its absolute highlight: the pole jumpers delivered an incredibly strong competition, seven athletes crossed 5.90 meters – Bo Kanda Lita Baehre was the only German participant with 5.75 meters tenth. And at the top, the Greek Emmanouil Karalis (won with six meters of silver) tried to make the high -flyer Armand Duplantis gold. He failed very much at 6.15 meters – but he couldn’t have shocked the Swedes with it either.

Because he not only won the World Cup title, but he broke through a new sound barrier in his discipline. Duplantis jumped his 14th world record and screwed the record in the third attempt to 6.30 meters high. The nation stadium cooked, at that moment all other competitions had already ended and Duplantis had the entire world stage of athletics – and it used it in the best possible way.

100 meter hurdles – sensational victory of Kambundji

She certainly did not expect this gold medal herself: In an incredibly dense world-class field, Ditaji Kambundji has surprisingly won the World Cup title over 100 meters hurdles. With the national record time of 12.24 seconds before the world record player Tobi Amusan (Nigeria/12.29 seconds) and Grace (USA/12.34), the Swiss prevailed.

Kambundji’s sister Mujinga had brought bronze over 200 meters in Doha in 2019, now Ditaji trumped her again. It was the first World Cup gold since 2001 when André Bucher triumphed over 800 meters in Edmonton. Before her World Cup coup, Kambundji’s best performance was 12.40 seconds.

3000 meters of obstacle – Ruppert spends itself in leadership work

In the Diamond League final, Frederik Ruppert was still the big triumphant, at the World Cup the DLV athlete had nothing to do with the decision. For a long time Ruppert had led the race when the pace was put on, he had to pay tribute to this work in the wind. In 8: 39.83 minutes, the 28-year-old was only twelfth, and Niklas Buchholz finished 15th, whose finals were already a success. The title won the title after a great end spurt Geordie Beamish from New Zealand.

“I’m not satisfied, I have to analyze what I could have done differently”said Ruppert in the Sportschau interview. “In the end, something was missing. But that doesn’t change the fact that it was the best season of my career, that shouldn’t reduce the whole thing.”

Long jump – Batz misses the final

Simon Batz lacked only six centimeters to achieve the final in the long jump at the World Athletics World Cup. At 7.92 meters, the 22-year-old was 17th and did not make it to the top 12, which can start in the final fight taking place on Wednesday.

“You have to say that the starter field was really strong and the boys delivered well. Unfortunately, I always gave a lot on the board, but unfortunately that is part of our sport”said Batz in the sports show interview. “I felt more good than ever and have to say that a lot is still going. That makes it bitter, but you just have to get it on the board. The others have jumped on, so it deserves.”
