On Thursday, the European Halle Championships 2025 (March 6th to 9th) will start in athletics on Thursday-with several good medal opportunities for the DLV team.
37 athletes have been nominated for the competitions – and among them are several who have really good prospects for the podium or are even a favorite in their discipline. “Although some of our best athletes have planned in favor of preparing for the open-air season without an indoor championship, we travel to Apeldoorn with a powerful and well-prepared team”said DLV board member Dr. Jörg Bügner. Sportschau.de gives an overview of the greatest hopes of hope in the team.
Malaika Mihambo
At 7.07 meters, the exceptional jumper is the best of the world this season and at the German championships she jumped a width with 6.79 meters despite some problems and prior cold break, which should already be sufficient for the front places. Mihambo is the top favorite on gold, Mikkaele Assani also has chances of a medal, who is number three among the participants with a best performance of 6.79 meters this season.
Yemisi Ogunleye
The Olympic champion made an impressive start to the season and impressively showed that she will also be part of the top of the world. At the Hallen DM in Dortmund, Ogunleye fired the ball to 20.27 meters and also cheered on a new personal best. With Jessica Schilder (Netherlands), the 26-year-old should only have a serious competitor for gold. Behind it could make Katharina Maisch ensure a bronze surprise.
Max Heß
His 17.41 meters are the best wide worldwide this season – and maybe only a millimenter was missing, then he would have already topped it himself. At 17 meters, Hess became a German champion, but he had two jumps that were minimally transferred that were in the area of his best. The 28-year-old travels to the Netherlands in top shape and wants to do more after twice EM bronze this time.
Maitje Kolberg
The 25-year-old goes into the race with a time of 2: 00.53 minutes as the third fastest participant in the season, but last summer she ran two seconds faster and is part of the world class in her discipline. At the German Championships, Kolberg surprised that she started over 1500 meters, where she won the title – and maybe the little bit more tempo gardens to triumph in Apeldoorn.
Christina Honsel
In the high jump of women, gold should go to world record player Yaroslava Mahuchikh, but behind it is the race for the places completely open. If Christina Honsel gets her season best of 1.95 meters, she is definitely a candidate for silver or bronze. Only two women who will be at the European Championship have jumped higher this season. Imke Onnen (1.93 meters) could also have a say.
The possible surprises
Alexandra Burghardt and Robin Ganter are over 60 meters in outstanding form. Only four competitors ran faster than Burghardt this season, with a further increase – she ran in Dortmund with 7.13 seconds new best – she could be there at the front. At Ganter, the chances are a little bigger, in the men’s race it should arrive at every hundredth, perhaps even a thousandth.
The hurdle sprinters Marlene Meier and Rosina Schneider also have medal potential if they improve even further in the Netherlands. The pole jumpers Torben Torben Blech and Bo Kanda Lita Baehre have to be sure that are not aspirants of their heights that have been achieved so far, but still strive for one. Robert Farken also has the option of over 1500 meters, the race for the medals behind superstar Jakob Ingigtsen is quite open.
