at the start of Mountain Food and Wine Sciences

THEnterdisciplinarity, local economy, innovation: the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, a non-state public university (funded mainly by the Autonomous Province), with 4000 students in 5 faculties, launches two courses to train new professional figures. The first course to start is the one in Mountain Food and Wine Sciences, a three-year degree developed with the famous three-star chef Norbert Niederkoflerwho will be among the teachers: focuses on biodiversity and 0 km with an eye to news and the circular economy. The idea is to rethink the development of the South Tyrolean valleysrecovering the forgotten traditions and local products, enhancing the seasons and the slow times of life, but from a current point of view, without nostalgia.

The students – there are 25 places – will study Mathematics and Applied Chemistry for Gastronomic Sciences but also Animal and Plant Biodiversity, Mountain Agriculture, Business Organization and Methods of Recovery of Food By-products. There will be lectures, workshops, visits to local production realities. All will do an internship at AlpiNN – Food Space & Restaurant, ihe restaurant of Niederkofler and Paolo Ferretti at Plan de Corones.

And then? There are many possible career opportunities: from the management of mountain food and wine businesses to work in accommodation facilities, in tourism promotion, in the food sector as quality control, in procurement, in traditional communication and on social networks, in the organization of cultural events. The Mountain defends its values ​​and relaunches them, entrusting them to young people so that they can carry them forward.

New courses: the one for developers is also starting

The second new course of the University of Bolzano is of a completely different kind: it is the three-year degree in Ielectronic engineering and cyber-physical systems, a mix of electronic and automation engineering and computer science, suitable for those with solid basic mathematical and physical skills. The aim is to train developers and developers to design and build electronic and automation systems. In the three years of courses there will be a first theoretical part and a second more practical one, such as computer architecture, artificial intelligence, robot control, machine learning.

There are many professional opportunities, from the design and control of electronic systems to the development of software for measurement and control.

In the new degree courses in Bolzano, as well as in all the others of this young university – it was born in 1997 – teaching and research are trilingual: we speak, teach and study in Italian, German and English. A feature that rewards the university, first in the Censis ranking among the small Italian non-state universities and with good scores in the rankings especially for internationalization and student satisfaction.
