At least five injured after car drives into mass in Jerusalem | Israel Palestine

At least five people were injured in Jerusalem on Monday after a car plowed into a group of pedestrians. This is according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Nothing is yet known about the cause of the collision, Netanyahu speaks of a “terrorist attack”.

The Magen David Adom, the Israeli counterpart of the Red Cross, reports that several pedestrians were hit by a vehicle. A 70-year-old man is said to have been seriously injured, one woman and three other men are said to have been slightly injured. Police confirm that the man hit some pedestrians in the center of the city, he was neutralized on the spot. The identity of the driver is still unknown. In the meantime, it is clear that an armed civilian shot the driver and the man died as a result.

“A few minutes ago, not far from here, there was another attempt to kill the citizens of Israel,” said Prime Minister Netanyahu, who was in Jerusalem for a celebration to mark Israel’s 75th birthday. “This terrorist attack on this place, right now, reminds us that the land and state of Israel could only be acquired at a heavy cost.”

“If they could, they would kill us all,” he continued. “But they won’t beat us, we will beat them.”

Flare-ups conflict

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has seen a flare-up of violence since January. Earlier Monday, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, a Palestinian was killed by Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank, in a military operation described by the Israeli army as “counter-terrorism”.

Since the beginning of the year, the conflict has claimed the lives of at least 97 Palestinians, 19 Israelis, one Ukrainian and one Italian. Those figures include military and civilians, including minors, on the Palestinian side, and mostly civilians, including minors, and three members of the Arab minority on the Israeli side.
