At least 7 people were killed and 10 injured in a shooting at a synagogue in a Jewish settler neighborhood in eastern Jerusalem tonight. This is reported by Israeli media. The police, speaking of a terrorist attack, killed the perpetrator.
The gunman started firing as people left the prayer house in the Neve Yaakov neighborhood after the Sabbath celebration. He was shot when he tried to flee. According to local media, the police are looking for another suspect. The United States condemned the “terrible” attack.
Violence in Israel has flared up again in recent days and weeks. Palestinian militants fired five rockets into Israel from Gaza on Thursday night. Israel bombed targets in the area. The violence followed an Israeli army operation in the West Bank that killed nine Palestinians.
