23 deaths have already been registered in the municipality of Sao Sebastiao, about 200 km from Sao Paulo, the city’s mayor, Felipe Augusto, told CNN. Further north, in the coastal town of Ubatuba, a girl has died from the heavy rains, local authorities said.
The Sao Paulo state government had reported 19 deaths in a statement earlier in the day. She also mentioned 228 displaced persons and 338 evacuees.
The number of injured and missing has not yet been communicated by the authorities.
