A year after Philippe Coutinho was signed by Aston Villa for 20 million euros, the paths are parting again. The 31-year-old offensive player is moving to Al-Duhail SC on loan for the rest of the season. The Qatar Stars League champions, who are coached by Hernán Crespo, will reportedly pay the Brazilian’s full salary – a rumored £6.5 million a year (almost €7.6 million). The transfer window in Qatar is open until September 18th.

Coutinho initially came to Aston Villa on loan from FC Barcelona in January 2021 and recommended himself for a permanent commitment with five goals and three assists in 19 games. However, the 68-time national player was unable to build on his performance; he only managed one more goal in 24 appearances. Coutinho no longer played a major role in coach Unai Emery’s plans; his contract with Aston Villa is valid until 2026.
