Asteroid City, the trailer of the film by Wes Anderson: all the cast

cswoon-worthy color art, star-studded, Willie Coyote-esque backgrounds, symmetries and detachment from dark comedy. From the trailer of Asteroid Citythe new film by Wes Anderson After The French Dispatch, every creed of the American director is respected. In waiting to see it at the cinema – in the United States it comes out June 16th; in Italy we still don’t know, probably in September – all that remains is fantasize and speculate. That is, do the counting of the actors called by the director (Bill Murray – at home with Covid during filming – has been replaced by Steve Carell), of the scenographic bizarreness, of the accessories and of the clothes, of the plot, of an impeccable decorative system and always irresistible. Even when the results are only in favor of buying new wallpaper for the home.

Asteroid Citythe plot

The short version of the story – set in a fictional American city in the desert in 1955 – is that of a convention of young astronomers and space cadets (organized to bring together students and parents from all over the country for an academic and fellowship competition) shocked by the arrival of aliens.

In the long one: the convention is called Junior Stargazer and Space Cadetand is celebrated at Asteroid City during Asteroid Day, a day of commemoration in which, on September 23, 3007 BCa meteorite crashed in the area. The film opens on the melancholy of Jason Schwartzman, a widower and father of 4 children ended up in the town for a car breakdown that he would like to get out of there (but Tom Hanks, his father-in-law, doesn’t seem willing to help him).

“Asteroid City”, the poster.

Friendship saves him with a famous actress (Scarlett Johansson) and her son, with whom begins to participate in the various activities of the event: from the analysis of the solar system to new spatial theories.

All good until the city comes quarantined for suspicious presence of aliens and ufos. A godsend for the inquirers of the sky, for those who believe they would feel more at home outside the Earth’s atmosphere. Something that will certainly change the meaning of lifeor will finally give him one.
