Tacha N. made a good impression on the owners of a former rental home in Waregem. “I actually had no problems with that. I also had the impression that she took good care of the children,” said Judith D. The witness did have a collision with Danny Delaere because he made a hole on a part of the road. “This exposed the grounding. I never knew why he did that, but I had to close it three times and notified the local police officer.” According to the landlords, the victim appeared to be a short-tempered man. “I think he drank a little too much,” Franky B said.
A former consultant from the Special Youth Care Committee was called to testify about an incident from 2008. Heidi B. then sent a letter to the public prosecutor’s office in connection with threats that Delaere allegedly made to the children. However, the witness could not remember that matter. “The paper file can no longer be found. It was a very long time ago and there are so many files. I’m sorry,” he said.
Monique D. did remember that Danny Delaere had made death threats. “He could actually be very friendly. But when he was drunk he was a short-tempered fool,” he said. The witness wrote on social media that the facts were what he deserved.
D. was also not very positive about Tacha N.. She explained that the accused’s son stayed with her for a while. “Because she threw him out when she got an ankle bracelet. She only wanted contact with the children if they followed her version, but he didn’t want that.” Shortly before the trial, Tacha is also said to have contacted the witness. “I was going to be called to an assize and she wanted to know what I was going to say. But that was none of her business.”
During his relationship with the accused, Danny Delaere also entered into a relationship with Veronique D on several occasions. Her daughter knew him as a friendly man who changed completely under the influence of alcohol. “I know he was aggressive towards my mother. I was very scared and called the police,” she said in her statement. Amber L. also remembered how Delaere threatened to throw her brother’s Maxi-Cosi through the window.
