Assenaar to hospital after traffic accident on Afsluitdijk

A 22-year-old man from Assen was taken to hospital yesterday afternoon after a traffic accident on the Afsluitdijk. Two people were killed in the accident and two others were injured.

The Assenaar was taken to hospital because he had suffered ‘possible injuries’, the police reported. An 85-year-old man and an 81-year-old woman from the municipality of Heerenveen died of their injuries. The two injured are an 87-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman from Central Delft in South Holland.

There was a rear-end collision on the Afsluitdijk around 4.15 pm near the Frisian village of Kornwerderzand. Four vehicles were involved in the accident. Exactly how it could have happened is still under investigation.
