With 220,000 euros, Assen subsidizes the appointment of a special lector resilience at the Thorbecke Academy. This lecturer is also the quartermaster for the safety campus on the Asser Kazerneterrein. The lecturer will lead a research group. The aim is to develop training and courses that must increase resilience of government institutions, semi-public organizations and small and medium-sized businesses.

This lectorate investigates how individuals, organizations and communities should respond to disturbances, such as digital threats, organized crime or undermining.

A week ago, Assen and the Ministry of Defense and the province of Drenthe signed an agreement for further interpretation of a safety campus on the barracks. This campus of different educational institutions therefore not only has a physical place in the historic Emma Kazerne, but the substantive cooperation is also strengthened between Defense and the training of Thorbecke Academy, University of Groningen and DCTERRA.

A joint quartermaster was appointed in June, which is the senior lecturer in contemporary history Dr. Sipke de Hoop van de Rug, formerly working at the Defense Academy and the Royal Military School. Among other things, he will set up a research group and develop an educational program, as a prior education for the University of the University. At the same time, he becomes lector resilience, who has to bring knowledge and practice together in the field of resilience.

The Thorbecke Academy approached Assen this summer for financial support for the appointment of the Resilience lecturer. She asked for a contribution of 220,000 for an appointment of four years. Total costs are 724,000 euros. According to director Richard Delger, who is happy with the Asser Support, he still has to see where he comes to the subsidy in the other years. “We can now start this first year anyway.”

ASSEN attracts the stock market, “because the lecturer contributes to the development of the Safety Campus, to cooperation with safety partners and to strengthening social resilience,” the municipality said. Furthermore, further development of the safety campus fits in with the ambitions from the Economic Agenda and the Asser Ambition Agenda with extra employment and a bustling student city.
