Assault against Sané – that’s what Union coach Bjelica says

During the game between Bayern and Berlin there is a commotion on the sidelines. After the game, the Union coach presents himself. Bayern coach Tuchel also comments.

It was the exciting scene of the game: the violence of Union Berlin coach Nenad Bjelica against Bayern star Leroy Sané. In the second half, the two players clashed on the touchline when the Croatian denied the German international the ball to delay the game. After Sané reached for the ball, Bjelica swiped his hand twice across the Bayern player’s face. Bjelica received a red card for his outburst and Sané received a yellow card.

After the game, the Croatian appeared in an interview with Sky and explained his view of things: “I’m in my zone and want to give the ball to Sané, and he pushed me in my space. And then of course I reacted,” explained the 52-year-old.

But he then appeared insightful and remorseful: “Well, what I did can’t be tolerated. I understand the red card.” However, Bjelica also tried to explain his lack of control: “Of course I was a little nervous about the penalty scene in the 70th minute. It wasn’t clear to us whether that was a penalty or not, and also that it wasn’t possible checked.”

“Not good, right?”

As a reminder: In the scene in question, Union’s Kevin Behrens missed the ball in front of Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer and fell in the penalty area. The guests called for a penalty, but referee Frank Willenborg decided against it.

“It’s hard to say,” said Bjelica, looking at the television pictures. “I don’t want to say whether it’s a penalty or not. But I’ve seen penalties like that. You can give it, definitely.” And with a view to the referee: “But in front of 75,000 people when the score is 1-0 for Bayern, it’s not easy to give penalties.”

Bayern coach Tuchel also reacted to his colleague’s violence on Sky. “Not good, right?” said the 50-year-old when he was shown the TV pictures. “It’s difficult to defend him there. But I don’t want to add fuel to the fire now.”

It is still unclear how long Bjelica will be banned.
