ASN Bank will be cutting 850 to 950 jobs in the near future. The measure is part of a larger reorganization. Last year, the group announced that it would integrate names such as Volksbank, SNS and Regiobank into one bank. The transition to one brand was completed on July 1 and the internal organization is now being simplified.
The job reduction must be partly achieved by hiring fewer external workers. It is also the intention that not all vacancies will be filled. The simplification of the organizational structure also means that, for example, only one customer administration is required and fewer financial products are offered. A job reduction of 750 jobs was already announced last year. This reorganization is on top of that. By mid-2025, the bank employed more than 4,200 employees.
ASN is focusing even more on consumers than in the past, but they can therefore expect less customization, the bank writes. It focuses on offering mortgages and savings accounts. “Less customization means less complexity and therefore lower costs,” the bank writes in an explanation. Investments are also being made in new technology. “Customers will notice these changes because they will soon be served better and faster. For example, through one app, simpler processes and shorter lead times.”
In this way, 70 million euros should be saved in 2026 and another 80 million in 2027. “Of course I recognize the impact that the further simplification of the organization has on all colleagues. This is another major change,” CEO Roland Boekhout said in a statement.
The measures should be a next step towards making ASN future-proof. After nationalization in 2013 – then under the name SNS Reaal – the bank is still state-owned and was previously not considered ready for privatization. Politicians are still discussing the form in which this should happen.
