Friedrich Merz is under fire for using one word: “street scene”. The German chancellor drew a direct link between what he called “the street problem” and the need to drastically increase evictions. In the eyes of Merz, the changed appearance of German cities is simply “a problem” and immediately linked to it the harshest possible consequence: much more must be deployed and much faster. While the opposition demands an apology and even his own party is divided, he refuses to budge even an inch.
