The emblematic Cursa de la Mercè 2022 already has its winners: the Spanish athletes Artur Bossy and Cristina Silva. Bossy has completed the 10-kilometre route in 30 minutes and two seconds, thus becoming the winner of the men’s category. Silva, for her part, finished the race in 35 minutes and 10 seconds and obtained first place in the women’s category. Both runners stood out among the favorites for this race.

The 44th edition of the Course of the Mercè of Barcelona, which has been played this Sunday, September 18, has been a success of participation. As explained by the organization of the contest, the competition has added 8,000 runners and has exhausted all the available numbers. This year, moreover, the race has established a all-time record for female participationwith 2,600 runners, which account for 33% of those registered.

The competition, like every year, has located its epicenter in the Queen Maria Cristina Avenue, which has served both as a starting point and as a goal. From there, the runners have been able to tour the center of the city, entering such emblematic places as Avenida Paral·lel, Passeig de San Joan or Plaça Universitat.

In parallel, for the first time in the history of the competition, a 2-kilometre circuit has been set up for over 14 years of age with a disability intellectual or reduced mobility. This type of race, baptized as ‘Cursa Inclusiva 2K Mercè 22’, has started from Viladomat street and has also finished in Reina María Cristina avenue.

In the last edition, the winners of this emblematic ‘race’ were Alejandro Rodríguez Pritchard (Hospitalet At.), from Hospital, with a time of 30:32 in the men’s category, and Barcelona runner Cristina Silva (Ironwill BCN), with a time of 34:48 , in the feminine. The absolute records of this competition they are in the hands of Moroccan Mourad El Bannouri, with 29:24 and Lidia Rodriguez from Sabadell, with 34:12, both achieved in 2017.

Beyond the adrenaline rush of the sports competition itself, the Cursa de Mercè once again stands out for its charitable character. As every year, all the benefits obtained in this sporting event will go entirely to the Miquel Valls Catalan Foundation for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
