Artistic gymnastics, the Milan Academy expands

The federal center born in 1991 will have its restyling thanks to the contribution of the Lombardy Region. Magoni: “We must say thank you to sport”

March 13 – 6.54pm – MILAN

They call them “medal factories”, they are the federal centers and academies scattered across Italy that welcome athletes of national interest every day. One, the one in via Ovada, in Milan, has been a gym, guesthouse and institutional headquarters of Italian artistic gymnastics since 1991. In a word, home. It is here that the European champion men’s team and some of the most promising Italian players train, while the Fates – also continental queens in 2022 – are based at Brixia in Brescia with technical director Enrico Casella. Much of the Olympic preparation towards the Paris 2024 Games therefore passes through Lombardy.

GROWTH

The opportunity to reiterate this was today’s visit by the undersecretary with responsibility for Sport Lara Magoni: the Lombardy Region has undertaken to finance the enlargement and restructuring of the federal center in via Ovada wanted by the unforgettable federal president Bruno Grandi, to further promote the growth of activities at a time of excellent results from the entire movement. The works should have started last year, precisely to encourage all the pre-Olympic activity (gymnastics is the only sport that in 2023 won 17 passes out of 17 available for Paris), but some bureaucratic delays ended up delaying the construction site, which at this point could start in the summer. “I am particularly excited to be here, as a former athlete among beautiful Italian athletes. I know what it means to sacrifice for a goal, in my career I have had successes and injuries from which I have always started again. To everyone – concluded Undersecretary Magoni – I wish a great success good luck for the season. We have to say thanks to sport.” Meanwhile, the blues of the big tools are ready to return to the stage for the important international DTB POKAL meeting scheduled from 15 to 17 March in Stuttgart.
