Art robbery in former town hall Medemblik: chandelier and paintings disappeared

The former town hall of the municipality of Medemblik has been broken into. Thieves stole at least five paintings, a barometer and chandelier.

The former town hall is no longer owned by the municipality of Medemblik. The works of art are owned by the municipality, and were exhibited there. The burglary was discovered by the current owner of the property.

Alderman Jeroen Broeders: “I am devastated. They are not particularly valuable paintings at all, but the historical value for Medemblik is very great. For example, it concerns paintings by Radboud and Willem van Oranje.”

The council is urging anyone with information about the burglary to contact police. It is being investigated whether more works of art are missing.
