The arson in the building of a controversial Islam foundation in Veldhoven was filmed by a local resident. The fire was discovered Friday night, the police already said on Saturday that the fire was probably started. The video showing the arsonist running away has been circulated on social media.
“Honey…,” the woman heard in the video says, presumably to her companion. At that moment an orange glow can be seen and the arsonist runs away. “Fire, fire, fire,” the woman says softly.
The fire brigade quickly brought the fire under control and prevented the entire building from burning down. The damage inside is extensive. There were paving stones in and next to the building, which were used to smash the windows.
Just two months after the Islamplanning foundation moved into the building on Kruisstraat in Veldhoven, a devastating fire broke out in the building. Police and fire brigade assume intention. The arrival of the Islamic center has been controversial for some time and the arrival to Veldhoven aroused a lot of resistance.
The Islam Foundation was busy furnishing the building. No activities have taken place yet.
