Injured again: Arsenal star sets up unusual record

Martin Ödegaard had to get off the field early on Saturday-and wrote Premier League history. In the 2-0 win of FC Arsenal against West Ham United, the captain of the Gunners was replaced after just 30 minutes. It was the third league game in a row, in which the Norwegian, as part of the starting eleven, did not survive the first half. That has never been done in the Premier League before.
Arsenal team manager Mikel Areteta said after the game that Ödegaard felt “immediately uncomfortable” after a collision. Knees left on their knees. The playmaker’s mood was then “not positive”.
Already in the two previous games against Leeds United (replacement in the 38th minute) and Nottingham Forest (18th minute), the 26-year-old had made a premature basis due to shoulder problems. In contrast, Ödegaard had played through at the Champions League game against Olympiacos Piraeus (2-0).
Areta said: “We are waiting, hopefully it’s not that bad.” For the club, the upcoming international break now comes at the right time.
