Left-back experiment over
National player Kai Havertz is open to various positions under national coach Julian Nagelsmann. “In the meantime, people generally just have to understand that I am someone who puts his ego aside and will play for a team and in a position that is needed. When I play, I give it my all, no matter where. And I also think that I understand the game quite well, so that I can fill many positions,” said the 24-year-old in an interview with the pay-TV channel “Sky”.
All-rounder Havertz was used as a left-back by Nagelsmann in the last international matches. However, the national coach does not want to continue this experiment. He also played in the DFB uniform as a center and winger as well as in the offensive, right and left midfield (see Havertz’s performance data at the DFB). The ex-Leverkusen player is simply looking forward to “being able to play this European Championship, hopefully – and also being able to play successfully.” He will do everything he can this season “to prepare myself as best as possible and to be in my best possible condition there With a market value of 60 million euros, he is one of the five most valuable German footballers.

Havertz has now settled in well at Arsenal FC, to whom he moved in the summer for 75 million euros. “After two or three bad games, the coach came to me and said: ‘Hey, everything is good, soon something will click and then it will happen.’ And then the moment came,” explained the Aachen native, who has scored four times for the “Gunners” since November.
But Havertz also self-critically admitted that the early days with the North Londoners “were of course not my best time, I’ll be honest and I can get a lot more out of myself.” His self-confidence “suffered a bit” as a result, but he is now so strong that “I can then work my way out of such depths.” More money has not been spent on any other German player in football history, with transfer proceeds of 155 million euros.
