Arrested after desecrating the grave of a slain police officer

Almost two years after the desecration of the grave of a Berlin police officer killed on duty, investigators have caught a suspect.

It was a 34-year-old homeless man, said a police spokeswoman, confirming a report by the “Tagesspiegel” (Saturday).

The policeman Uwe Lieschied was shot dead in March 2006 while pursuing pickpockets on Hasenheide.

His tombstone was damaged several times and smeared with a swastika, most recently in April 2020.

An arrest warrant for other offenses was executed against the suspect in a social home on Wednesday, the police spokeswoman said.
