Arminia Bielefeld and central defender Leon Schneider have extended their contract, which runs until 2027, at an early stage. The East Westphalians confirmed this on Tuesday without mentioning the new term. The 25-year-old moved to the Alm from the second team of 1. FC Köln on a free transfer in 2023 and has been on the field 95 times since then (2 goals/2 assists). During this time, Schneider increased his market value from 125,000 to 700,000 euros – most recently he received an increase of 200,000 euros in the October update of the 2nd Bundesliga.
“Leon has developed into a very important part of our team through constant performance at a high level over the past two years, giving our defense great stability,” said Arminia sports director Michael Mutzel. “We value his calm and clarity on the pitch, but also his down-to-earth and level-headed manner off the pitch. It is therefore a strong signal that he has extended his contract early and will continue to follow the path we have chosen.”
Schneider himself said: “Since I’ve been here, we’ve made enormous development together. Last year in particular was an incredible journey for all of us that we will never forget. I was given a lot of trust right from the start and given a clear perspective. That makes me all the more pleased to continue to be part of this club and this team.”
