Armed with a special boa and boat, Enkhuizen wants to combat racing youth

A special extraordinary investigating officer (boa) must combat the nuisance caused by young people sailing too fast in Enkhuizen. The nuisance is an annual problem and the municipality has now had enough. About 125,000 euros will be allocated to hire a boa and buy a boat.

The fast-moving youth causes annoyance to many residents and damages nature. And because the police are facing a capacity problem, politicians in Enkhuizen are now taking extra measures themselves. Becomes approximately 125,000 euros have been released to permanently employ a special boa.

The amount will also be spent on a boat. It concerns a boat with a trailer, the municipality emphasizes. “Since the boat also has to sail in shallow water, we are purchasing a flat-bottomed boat,” says a spokesperson.

A boa can easily cost a ton. According to the municipality, the fact that it has to cost so much money is due to salary costs, training, insurance, purchasing clothing and maintaining the equipment. A significant amount, which the municipal council must decide every year.

Reducing nuisance

By focusing on enforcement, the municipality expects to reduce nuisance on the water. “The boating surveillance and the calling and fining by the boa will contribute to reducing nuisance on the water in the long term.”

In addition to the high season, the boa can also be used to tackle illegal fireworks and the illegal dumping of (drug) waste. “But also with undermining and violating the Fisheries Act,” said Mayor Eduard van Zuijlen. Permission from the police and the Public Prosecution Service is required.

If it were up to the municipality, a boa would be appointed quickly, so that he or she could start working next sailing season.
