The change of style and the laughter
According to the press release, Arlo Parks underwent a musical realignment for her new album. The artist replaced the previous live band recordings with electronic production tools – such as modular synthesizers, Ableton plugins and samplers. The 25-year-old singer-songwriter cited the New York discotheque Paradise Garage, The Streets, Burial as well as LCD Soundsystem and Theo Parrish as references.
In addition, Arlo Parks announced in a press release about the creation of the record: “While recording this record, I danced more than ever before, I also made more friends than ever before, found myself in the bizarre underworld of New York juke nights, unleashed, laughed and laughed and laughed.”
Thematic focus on desire and longing
The musician described the central theme of the album as “desire”. Arlo Parks continued to comment on the first single released, “2SIDED”: “At its core, “2SIDED” is about longing and excitement. It’s about being struck by a bolt of desire and having the courage to put words to that feeling, to make it real.”
Director Molly Burdett directed the music video for the track. You can listen and see the clip here:
