It is one of the most embarrassing excerpts ever in the history of Dutch television: the performance of the relatively unknown comedian Stefan Pop in the new commercial TV show by Arjen Lubach. The VPRO traitor knows how much Stefan would go with his humorless story, but just decided to throw it on a channel.
Crush
After the broadcast, that Stefan was really completely critical by critics and he was also ridiculed in today Inside. And this was his introduction to the masses. Everyone knows that this will never be fine again: after all, you only have one chance to make a good first impression.
Stefan has now explained his failed TV performance on the stage of the Rotterdam comedy club Haug. “Thanks to Comedy Club Haug that I could spontaneously participate this weekend and tell my story. ‘My choices’
The TV crash causes a lot of sorrow at Stefan. “Here my response to this week. These were my choices, my time,” he says.
He continues: “I had put pieces from my performance in succession that were spread in the show and perhaps it came to their own better than in this order one after the other on TV. That has been a choice that should not have been done with the experience I have.”
Ruined
Stefan is particularly sorry that he ruined it for his colleagues. After all, the next stand-up comedian will be viewed entirely with suspicion.
He says: “What I am particularly balt is that I greatly appreciate that there is a risk taken by Arjen Lubach and his team to offer room for stand Up in his show and I would not want another comedian who gets the chance to be received with an open mind in response to my performance.”
Artistic choice
What went wrong? Stefan: “We had a conversation about it with the producer and then we had decided: you know what, he always does very heavy subjects, what if you do a lighter subject? I thought: well, that’s a good idea, let’s do that, then I’m just going to talk about family life and talk a little about my kids and my girlfriend.”
“That was the artistic choice, but I can tell you: not the right choice, that went wrong! In the first minute I already felt it. You are standing there, then you do your first joke and then you think: oh wait a minute, that’s not what I have to do here. But you can’t go back, because you don’t get stuck! You can’t go!”
Shitstorm
Stefan never expected his performance to release so much. “I came off and a whole shit storm. I received all negative messages, everyone thought it was cunt and not good enough. I accept all the criticism.”
Soundos El Ahmadi supports Stefan. “I had this every week at De Wereld Draait Door oration. All came well dude,” she says.
