Are you allowed to perform as a street artist in Zoetermeer?

Sometimes you see a child with a flute or a musician playing the guitar in the Stadshart or the Dorpsstraat. Is it your dream to also share your self-written songs or dance techniques with Zoetermeer residents on the street? Then it is good to know the rules.

In the municipality of Zoetermeer you are allowed to perform as a street artist, but you are not allowed to make too much noise. Unless you apply for a permit.

Leave that amplifier at home

Dancing, acting or making music: it’s all possible on the streets of Zoetermeer. But do know that it is better to leave your microphone or sound box at home. Without reinforcement you do not need an exemption from the municipality. If you want Zoetermeer residents outside the center to also be able to hear your musical skills, then you have to an exemption to request. To do this, please provide the date and location. The municipality takes eight weeks to apply for an exemption, so be on time.

Bring a tape measure

If you want to stand on Promenadeplein with your guitar all Saturday, keep in mind that you are allowed to stand in one place for a maximum of 30 minutes. You should see that spot as an imaginary circle with a radius of 50 meters. So don’t forget to bring your tape measure.

The small print

Do you think you are smart enough to spend half an hour in front of the Hema, half an hour at the Burgemeester Wegstapplein and back again? Unfortunately, you are not allowed to go back and forth between two places. So be creative and move to, for example, the Burgemeester van Leeuwenpassage, the Dorpsstraat or the Cadenzaplein. Good to know: during an event you must stay within a radius of 50 meters from the event site.
