Recommendations of the Editorial team
The Thilo Mischke case is probably still giving some of those responsible at ARD nightmares today. After a shitstorm, which apparently came not least from his own employees, he was no longer allowed to host “title thesen temperamente”. For a long time, Siham El-Maimouni presented the format alone, but now she has a colleague at her side.
His first name is also Thilo. Thilo Jahn. According to media circles, the ARD broadcasters involved unanimously chose the 44-year-old in a multi-stage selection process.
Jahn is less known for his pithy sayings, but he already won the Grimme Prize in 2015 (for the format “Mr. Dicks – The first truly subjective society magazine”). Viewers were most recently able to discover him on WDR, Deutschlandfunk Nova and One. With “Westart” he was already on board a cultural magazine.
Thilo Jung knows how to tell culture
MDR main editorial director Jana Cebulla praises his great cultural competence and the ability to “tell culture in such a way that it reaches its audience beyond classic formats”. That now seems to be ARD’s main concern – not just to present it in a humorous way, but also to make it palatable for a (preferably younger) audience.
“He knows the cultural sector and its actors first hand,” Cebulla continued. Also an important criterion, as numerous representatives of this highly sensitive industry had clearly spoken out against Mischke.
While El-Maimouni will moderate around two thirds of the “ttt” episodes per year in the future, Thilo Jahn will take over the rest. It starts on August 30th, after the show’s summer break.
After his public nomination for “title thesen temperamente” at the end of 2024, Thilo Mischke came under massive criticism in the cultural scene for previous sexist and racist statements, including in older books and podcasts. Due to ongoing public pressure, ARD backed down in January 2025 and stopped using the moderator in order to protect the content of the show. The unsuccessful personnel decision led to internal structural reforms at the station and now also to the position being filled by Thilo Jahn.
