The countdown is on: The Arctic Monkeys’ seventh studio album, “The Car”, will be released on October 21st. The single “There’d Better Be A Mirrorball” was released as a first harbinger at the end of August. A second sample has now been delivered: “Body Paint” was released on September 29th. We conducted an extensive interview with Alex Turner for the 10/2022 issue of ROLLING STONE.

Arctic Monkeys introduced the song during an intimate show at the Kings Theater in Brooklyn, New York. The band then announced the release on their Instagram story:

At the same time, the song was also released on all major streaming platforms. In a review of Arctic Monkeys’ recent New York performance, NME called the new track a “slow-burning, guitar-backed” number. Hear and see the song here:

“On this record, science fiction is off the table”

Also, Alex Turner said in an interview for Big Issue that the band is “getting down to earth” on the forthcoming album. Turner is referring to the 2018 record “Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino”, which was relatively controversial. “Sci-fi is off the table on this record,” says Turner. Most recently, the compilation “Live At The Royal Albert Hall” was released in 2020.
