“Arbitrariness”? Tim Wiese lawsuit against Werder Bremen confirmed

Former national soccer goalkeeper Tim Wiese is taking legal action against the stadium ban imposed on him by Werder Bremen. A spokesman for the Bremen Regional Court confirmed receipt of the complaint to the “German Press Agency”. The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported on it.

Werder’s head of professional football, Clemens Fritz, regretted the intensification of the conflict between the club and Wiese. “Of course it’s a shame that we’re at this point now,” said Wiese’s former team-mate on Friday. “You can be sure and assume that we will of course be very sensitive to the issue,” explained Fritz.

Werder had imposed a stadium ban on their former goalkeeper. The background is said to have been an incident at the home game against Bayer Leverkusen in March. Wiese’s lawyer Heiko Klatt justified the lawsuit with the lack of clarification of the incident by the people of Bremen.

Wiese’s lawyer: “Stadium ban based on arbitrariness”

“Werder did not even contact the witnesses named by Tim Wiese, let alone asked them about the allegation. The stadium ban is therefore based on arbitrariness and not on the basis of sufficient clarification of the facts,” Klatt told the “German Press Agency”.

Fritz (42) defended himself against allegations that the Hanseatic League did not take the issue seriously or that there were problems with the processes. “We’re really going about it with the best of our knowledge and belief,” he added. He did not want to say more because of the ongoing process.

Wiese, who played 266 competitive games for Bremen, currently plays no role in the club’s traditional team. “If the club asks me not to take him into account, then I’ll do it,” said honorary captain Dieter Burdenski when asked by dpa. The 72-year-old takes care of the needs of the traditional team.
