Arantxa Rus reaches quarterfinals in Budapest | Tennis

Arantxa Rus has reached the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament in Budapest. The 31-year-old South Holland fought back against the Hungarian Natalia Szabanin from a 0-3 deficit in the deciding set. Rus won the match 4-6 6-4 6-4.

The match was evenly matched in the first set. But when the score was 4-4, Rus had to hand in her service. Her Hungarian opponent, 287th in the world, then took the set 6-4.

In the second act, Rus tied the score in sets. But she seemed unable to continue her good performance. Szabanin quickly took a 3-0 lead in the deciding set. But Russian came back. She tied the score and forced a break at 4-4. She then finished it off on her own serve.

Rus plays in the quarterfinals against the German Tamara Korpatsch, the number 118 in the world ranking. The Dutch dropped out of the top 100 on Monday and is now in place 101.
