Appointments of the Human Rights Council | News item

At the proposal of State Secretary Struycken (Legal Protection), the Council of Ministers has approved the nomination for the appointment of four new deputy members to the Human Rights Institute. This concerns Mr. M. (Marinus) Flipse, Mr. GJW (Gerrit Jan) Pulles, Mrs. Dr. B. (Bahija) Aarrass and Mr. Dr. J. Ph. (Jan) Broekhuizen. The new deputy members of the Board have been appointed for a period of six years.

In addition to the new appointments for deputy members, the deputy members Mr. PR (Peter) Rodrigues and Mrs. ACJ (Adriana) van Dooijeweert have been reappointed for one year.

The Netherlands Institute for Human Rights is the national and independent institute that monitors compliance with human rights in the (Caribbean) Netherlands. The Board does this through research, advice, education and information. The Board also assesses in individual cases whether there is discrimination, in accordance with equal treatment legislation. Anyone who feels discriminated against can report this or file a complaint with the Board. The Board consists of permanent Board members and deputy Board members. They judge submitted discrimination complaints.
