Appointment of Inspector General of the Environment and Transport | News item

Dr. MC (Mattheus) Wassenaar will become Inspector General of the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. The Council of Ministers has approved the nomination on the proposal of Minister De Jonge of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. The appointment takes effect on October 16, 2023.

Mattheus Wassenaar has been acting inspector general of the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate since January 2023. From 2019 to 2022 he was Director of Information, Networks and Programming/CIO, and since October 2021 also Deputy Inspector General at the ILT. Previously, he was a member of the board of directors of Amsta, a healthcare provider in Amsterdam for the elderly and people with intellectual disabilities. He previously worked within the government as director of Audit & Concern Control/Finance & Operations at the Custodial Institutions Agency and as deputy director of Financial-Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment.

Mattheus Wassenaar studied General Economics and Econometrics at the University of Groningen and obtained a PhD in Economics from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.

This appointment was made through the procedure for the top management group of the General Administrative Service.
