Nancy Jouwe is appointed as a member of the Council for Culture. The Council of Ministers has agreed to this on the proposal of State Secretary Uslu of Culture and Media. The appointment will take effect on 15 February 2023 for a period of four years.

Jouwe studied General Literature at the Universities of Utrecht and York and specializes in Women’s Studies and Cultural History. She held board positions at various cultural and social organizations, such as Kosmopolis Utrecht and Mama Cash. She also taught at Utrecht University, at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, the Willem de Kooning Academy and the Utrecht School of the Arts, where she has had a fellowship since 2022 as a result of research into the slavery past of the city of Utrecht. In addition, Jouwe is active within the cultural sector as a curator, researcher, consultant and program maker, including for the Rijksmuseum, the National Museum of World Cultures and the Central Museum Utrecht. In 2021 she was a member of the joint advisory committee of the National Museum of Slavery History of the Amsterdam Art Council and the Council for Culture.

Council for Culture

The Council for Culture is the independent advisory body to the government and parliament in the field of art, culture and media. The Board also consists of the following members: Kristel Baele (chairman), Stef Avezaat, Deirdre Carasso, Erwin van Lambaart, John Olivieira-Siere, Edo Righini and Ellen Schindler.
