Appointment chairman of the Dutch Sports Council | News item

Tom van ‘t Hek will become the new chairman of the Dutch Sports Council. The Council of Ministers has approved the nomination for appointment of Mr Van ‘t Hek as chairman. The appointment will take effect on August 1, 2024 for a period of four years.

Tom van ‘t Hek has a background in healthcare, sports, media and the social domain. He started as a general practitioner and at that time he was also a top hockey player in the Dutch Men’s National Team. After his top sports career, he became national coach of the Dutch National Women’s Team. Mr Van ‘t Hek has been a presenter and commentator for sports programs such as Radio 1 Journaal and Langs de Lijn for 30 years. He has also been chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Youth Fund for Sport and Culture and chairman of conferences.

The Dutch Sports Council is an independent advisory body that advises the government and both Houses of the States General on policy and social issues regarding sport and exercise. The Dutch Sports Council currently consists of eight members (four women and four men).
