Appointed chairman of the Environmental Impact Assessment Committee | News item

Prof. Dr. ir. Hans Mommaas will be the new chairman of the Environmental Impact Assessment Committee. The Council of Ministers has approved the proposal of State Secretary Heijnen of Infrastructure and Water Management, Minister Staghouwer of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and State Secretary Uslu of Education, Culture and Science to nominate him for appointment.

The Environmental Impact Assessment Committee, as an independent organisation, advises on the content of environmental impact assessments. In addition to representing the Commission for Environmental Impact Assessment, Hans Mommaas (66) will also act as chairman in the Commission’s advisory processes.

Hans Mommaas is currently director of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. The PBL previously announced that Mommaas will resign from his position on 1 November 2022. In addition, he is a part-time Professor of Regional Sustainability Governance at the Tilburg Institute for Law and Regional Governance (TiREG) of Tilburg University.

From 2004 to 2015, Hans Mommaas was scientific director of Telos, Brabant Center for Sustainable Development. He was also a member of the VROM Council from 2005 to 2010.

The appointment of Mr Mommaas will take effect on November 1, 2022.
