The Trapani Prosecutor’s Office has requested a ten-year prison sentence for the Olympic weightlifting champion Antonino Pizzolato, bronze medalist in Paris 2024 and Tokyo in 2021. He is accused of aggravated gang sexual assault. According to the newspapers La Sicilia and Giornale di Sicilia, the same sentence was requested for the other three defendants: Davide Lupo, Claudio Tutino and Stefano Mongiovì. The requests for conviction were shared by the civil party, represented by the lawyer Nicola Pellegrino.

At the center of the proceedings are allegations of abuse that were allegedly committed in July 2022 in Trapani on a Finnish tourist, whom he met in a restaurant together with other compatriots. According to prosecutors Andrea Tarondo and Giulia Sbocchia, taking advantage of the fact that the Finn had been drinking, after leaving the club and dismissing the two friends, the four would have had sexual intercourse with her against the victim’s will. The violence stopped when the young woman, in tears, asked to return to her hotel. For prosecutor Giulia Sbocca “no element emerged during the trial capable of proving the existence of consent”. The trial was adjourned until January and will resume with the defense arguments.
