Another big Neapolitan blow for almost eliminated Ajax

A fairly hopeless Ajax left the field empty-handed in the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples. The team from Amsterdam lost 4-2 to Napoli. As a result, Ajax is now third in the group and wintering in the Champions League seems almost impossible.

If there was any hope in Amsterdam of a good result in Naples, it could go in the trash after four minutes. Napoli took the lead via former PSV player Hirving Lozano. After that, the home team often left possession of the ball to Ajax and the team of the troubled trainer Alfred Schreuder occasionally converted that into some opportunities. The closest to an equalizing goal was Steven Berghuis. The creative right winger shot the edge of the sixteen-meter area just past the wrong side of the post.

2-0

Yet it was again the Italians who pulled the trigger very convincingly via Giacomo Raspadori. The Neapolitan shot the ball convincingly into the top corner after fifteen minutes of football. Ajax goalie Remko Pasveer could only look at it. Also saw the suspended Dusan Tadic from the stands. The captain took the red card last week after the 1-6 defeat in Amsterdam.

Matching goal

After the break, the Ajax players got off to an excellent start. Davy Klaassen headed in a cross from Calvin Bassey after four minutes. For a moment, the good feeling seemed to return to the Amsterdam-squad. Unfortunately, that only lasted ten minutes, because then the ball unfortunately hit defender Jurriën Timber in the penalty area. Star player Kvicha Kvaratskelia shot the Serie A leader from the penalty to another large lead, 3-1. Just before time, referee Felix Zwayer also gave Ajax a penalty after a foul on substitute Brian Brobbey. Steven Bergwijn scored and again created some tension.

Blind fumbles

Although Ajax was no longer dangerous for Napoli’s goal in the final phase. The suffering only got worse as Blind fumbled in the back. The central defender gave Victor Osimhen an unmissable chance, 4-2. As a result, Ajax loses 10-3 over two matches against Napoli.

In two weeks, Schreuder’s men can still hope for a miracle. Then the meeting with Liverpool awaits.

Ajax setup: feather; Sanchez (Boss/65), Timber, Blind, Bassey; Alvarez, Taylor (Grillitsch/65), Klaassen; Mountain house (Conceição/84), Kudus (Brobbey/65), Mountain wine (Ocampos/84)
