Annemarie van Gaal makes the social media explode by announcing one of her showpieces in News of the Day. She receives tons of criticism. “Stop that woman!”

It has been one of Annemarie van Gaal’s showpieces for years: she thinks our people are too lazy and the disabled are too quickly rejected. We need far fewer migrant workers if those rejected people start looking at what they can still do, the businesswoman fumed on Monday evening at the desk of the right-wing TV news. News of the Day.

Bad knees

Annemarie believes that we should think in terms of possibilities instead of limitations. “If you have been rejected because of, let’s just say, your knees, then I understand that you cannot be a road worker, but there may be many other places where you can work.”

An item is then started about a gentleman who has been declared unfit for work due to his bad knees. He receives a benefit of 1,200 euros. How does he make ends meet? “Just be frugal. Do your shopping everywhere and not at just one supermarket, so I’m going to waste my time all day long.”

With those bad knees. Handsome.

Loads of criticism

Annemarie wants these types of people to work, but that goes down the wrong way with many viewers. A fragment of her plea on the X page of News of the Day elicits an incredible number of responses.

For example, journalist Jelmer Koper says: “She really doesn’t know what she’s talking about. As if it’s a party to be incapacitated for work. And as if people do that on purpose. I can give a very close-up example of why that is total nonsense.”

Bullshit

It’s easy for that woman to talk, says the relatively unknown politician Huub Bellemakers. “Stop Annemarie van Gaal. She gets €4,500 to talk to municipalities for half a day. About this kind of nonsense. That makes it extra bitter.”

GroenLinks councilor Jarno van Straaten is very annoyed by it. “The WIA, WW and Social Assistance are not greasy people. Total disregard for ordinary people, this item. Let Annemarie make streets herself. If you have only talked all your life, you have no right to speak on this subject.”

Crazy

Political scientist Steve Smit thinks that Annemarie is not feeling well. “This woman is really crazy… Anyway: she has created quite a revenue model for herself by telling pub talk.”

Free Left activist Sander Zuidema: “Hi, Annemarie van Gaal doesn’t know what residual earning capacity is, how it is calculated, what kind of functions clearly disabled people are still expected to be able to do. Or that people who earn a lot have a golden ticket in the disability lottery.”

“She’s right!”

The slum landlord Ebru Umar, who is plagued by Hugo de Jonge, thinks that Annemarie says sensible things. “She is so right.”

A certain Mr. Clement agrees with her: “There are 100,000 Somalis and Ethiopians on welfare. Kick their asses!”

And Mirjam about the man in the report: “He is condemned to death but spends his life in supermarkets. So this is it. Have a laugh and smoke another one at your expense. For 30 years. Isn’t it cool, that welfare state? Wake up!”
