Anna Teurnell takes over creative direction from Filippa K

Creative change at Filippa K.

The Swedish fashion brand has appointed Anna Teurnell as creative lead, Filippa K announced on Monday. The appointment of Teurnell, who takes up her position with immediate effect, follows the departure of German-Finnish creative director Liisa Kessler. She succeeded creative director and founder Filippa Knutsson in 2022 and left the Swedish label on February 1st.

From now on, the creative management of the brand lies with Teurnell. In her role, she will oversee all creative aspects of the brand. Details of the designated creative director’s first collection for FIlippa K will be announced in due course, the statement said, but her appointment solidifies the strategic direction initiated in 2021 and solidifies the brand’s positioning as affordable luxury.

“We are very pleased to welcome Anna Teurnell as the new creative lead at Filippa K,” said Filippa K’s managing director Marie Forssenius. “”Her unparalleled expertise in design and merchandising, complemented by her sense of timeless style, effortlessly aligns with our core values. We have full confidence that this appointment will help advance our strategic journey and promote the growth of Filippa K .”

New creative director comes from Arket and Marimekko

Teurnell founded her own up-and-coming luxury label Teurn Studios in 2021 and is expected to continue working there alongside her new position, but her resume includes various previous stops.

According to her profile on the career network Linkedin, she started her career as a visual manager at H&M before moving to the role of Head of Design at the Swedish fashion group in 2003. After eight years, she was eventually appointed to the role of Head of Designer at the H&M subsidiary &Other Stories, before leaving the H&M Group for a while and working as creative director for the Finnish fashion brand Marimekko for three years. She eventually returned to the H&M Group in 2017 as Head of Design for the Arket brand, where she worked for almost six years.

“I am excited about this opportunity and look forward to helping develop a brand that has been close to my heart for decades,” said Teurnell. “I see incredible potential in Filippa K, both globally and locally. My priority will be to define and develop the next generation of iconic products for the brand, working closely with the teams.”
