After a nerve thriller, Anna-Lena Friedsam reached the quarterfinals at the WTA tournament in Austin/Texas.
The 29-year-old from Neuwied won the hard-fought game in the round of 16 against Erika Andreeva 7-5, 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (10-8).
Friedsam will next meet fifth seeded Marta Kostyuk from Ukraine or Madison Brengle (USA).
Friedsam got the first set with a lot of effort, but had to give up the second set in the tie-break. In the third round, Friedsam was already 2:5 behind, but fought his way back and forced another tie-break.
Nerves fluttered there at first: the German missed four match points before she made the victory perfect after 3:13 hours.
