Russian musicians imitate Angine de Poitrine – including polkadots and masks. Art director Sam Murdock also warns of thousands of counterfeit merch items.
Double-necked guitars, black and white polkadots, alien masks and bare feet on the loop station: Angine de Poitrine is anything but average. That’s exactly what millions of people found fascinating. The band went viral in March 2026 and thrilled the internet with their absurd, playful style. Comparisons with the Dada anti-art of the 1920s sprouted up and elevated the rock duo from Quebec to a radical movement against AI art – precisely because of its unpredictability. But now recordings of Angine de Poitrine impersonators continue to appear on social networks.
Temu de Poitrine
What AI can’t do, human greed tries: Musicians in Russia imitated Angine de Poitrine, complete with polkadots and masks – without any indication that they were simply imitations of the iconic style. However, the fake did not go unnoticed: Comments appeared under videos of the performances in Moscow that exposed the two impersonators: “Temu de Poitrine, right?”
Sarcastic comments were aimed at the unmarked imitation: “The copyright situation in Russia:” It can be seen from the images that the polkadot look appears to be significantly less high-quality; The second guitar neck is also missing.
Purely musical recognition value
The identity theft also reached the environment of the real math rock band. Sam Murdock, the art director who works with the Canadians, caught wind of this and tells “Exclaim!”: “A fake band is currently touring through Russia, in costumes and everything.” He observes that many want to benefit from Angine de Poitrine’s success: “We live in strange times where everyone is trying to make money from the band. There are already 1,500 fake T-shirts online right now. I’ve already removed 700 fake T-shirts on Tee Republic and Red Bubble, but more and more are popping up.”
The imitation was quickly discovered – it is nowhere near high enough for that. Ordered Angine de Poitrine on Wish – or on Temu. But because the band is masked, there is no recognition value through faces. However, her music is what makes Angine de Poitrine unique. That’s why would-be math rockers can’t last long under the eyes of fans.
