Angela de Jong thinks it is really exaggerated that RTL Boulevard opens the broadcast with so-called fat shaming by Gordon. “Then I think: what do you want? That’s the whole idea!”
Gordon was the opening news of RTL Boulevard, the most watched show section in our country, on Monday evening. The reason? That he made a rather lame joke in Ranking the Stars about the weight of his somewhat obese fellow candidate Sarah Janneh: “I think she wants to fly, but the plane won’t rise!”
Fuss about Gordon
Apparently enough reason to open RTL’s show news with it in 2025. “According to many viewers, he completely crosses the line when he fatshams fellow candidate Sarah Janneh,” says presenter Eddy Zoëy, very seriously.
This is very exaggerated, says Angela de Jong. And if she stands up for Goor, that means a lot. “Then I see Boulevard open with all the fuss about Gordon’s statement, but then I think: what do you want? This is Ranking the Stars after all! This is the idea of the program,” she exclaims AD Media Podcast.
‘We are shocked’
Media journalist Gudo Tienhooven isn’t surprised either. “Isn’t it exactly Ranking the Stars as we know it? The format is all about picking on each other, right? That is the program. Only now we are a little more shocked by a fat-shaming joke.”
Angela surprised: “That shocked you?”
Gudo: “Well, I thought: gosh, but also mainly because it is far too easy a joke. It’s not a clever joke and it’s not funny.”
Flat jokes
Podcast host Manuel Venderbos sneers as if you can expect intelligent humor from Ranking the Stars. “Yes, but there are only flat, easy jokes in there, right?”
Angela: “Yes, ‘Patty’s scheduled flight’ and everything that was said about Ryan Panday the day before. I don’t think it’s not possible or anything, but I mainly think: come up with something new. It’s all so sad.”
Incomprehensible
It’s too much of a repetition, Angela thinks. “The 87th season with those tired celebrities and wannabes that really don’t keep me awake at night. I also don’t understand what Loretta Schrijver does there. I don’t think he needs it at all. I think you’re going to sit there in the program if you’re reasonably desperate.”
A Gordon, for example, she sneers. “And Lilian Marijnissen, because he wants a different career, but he has now participated in just about everything. The Escape Room, The Hunting Season. They have to decide for themselves, but what I really hate about it is that they are hoisting Glennis Grace back on the shield as a celebrity who can laugh at flying shopping carts.”
‘Really not possible’
Angela thinks that Glennis does not belong on TV at all. “I really don’t think that’s possible. The fact that that woman is going to sing again and perform in halls is fine, you have to do all that, but this program is entertainment and you can laugh about it, while you know that really bad things have happened in the Jumbo that are bothering the staff. I don’t think that’s appropriate or necessary.”
“I don’t like looking at her at all either. This is money laundering.”
