Angela de Jong thinks it’s all well and good that Marco Borsato has been acquitted of fornication, but she refuses to ever play any of his songs again. “It’s like throwing up,” said the opinion diva.

It is striking: Angela de Jong has been joining in at every turn lately RTL Tonighta program that she would have written completely to pieces during her time as a TV columnist. And now she is sitting there happily wagging her tail at Humberto Tan. Will it be because they now both work for DPG Media or is the TV flop the only one who still sends her an invitation?

No evidence

Well, at least Angela still has a platform and she used it last night to bash Marco Borsato. She emphasizes that she supports his complainant, despite the fact that the court appears to distrust her. “Of course, we have a constitutional state and it functions, let’s put that first,” the AD diva begins.

“We have a system that requires there to be evidence and if there is no proof or there is no supporting evidence, then someone is acquitted, but we have had so many cases in the past period… It started with The Voice and everything afterwards that came to light at the public broadcaster in terms of transgressive behavior.”

Drained weight

Angela is sad that no victim triumphs. “Ultimately, the net drained weight of all these cases is that as an alleged victim, man or woman, you always get the short end of the stick. You simply don’t have a leg to stand on.”

“It always comes in the end boils down to your word against that of the other, because these are often matters that take place behind closed doors. There are no cameras, there are no audio recordings and there does not have to be any DNA, and then it remains your word against his.”

Marrow and bone

Marco’s accuser is simply credible, Angela thinks. “Then you get a statement like that that Peter Plasman read here from a then 15-year-old girl that was heartbreaking, I thought, because she explains exactly what a victim of sexual misconduct goes through.”

Angela would have been pleased if Marco had received a slap on the wrist from the judge. “She wanted recognition and she is left empty-handed again.”

To puke

Humberto wonders if Angela can still listen to Marco’s records. “Are you willing to still listen to Marco’s music?”

Angela bluntly: “No. I have to say: he was acquitted of fornication, but everything he did admit to what happened in that family and also the apps that were sent by a 50-year-old man to a 16 or 17-year-old girl really made me sick. No matter how much I like his music, I won’t put it on again myself.”
