Andrea Deelstra is twelve seconds short for the European Championship limit

ATHLETICS – Andrea Deelstra (36) failed to reach the limit for the European championship in the marathon this morning in Seville. The athlete, who grew up in Dwingeloo, finished in a time of 2 hours 31 minutes and 42 seconds and was therefore twelve seconds short.

The women’s marathon was won by Ethiopia’s Alemu Megertu in a new course record of 2 hours 18 minutes 51 seconds. Deelstra finished with her time in 22nd place among the women.

Her personal best dates from 2015. In Berlin she ran 2 hours 26 minutes and 46 seconds. She started twice in the Olympics. Last year in Japan she finished 44th.

The European Marathon Championships are in Munich in August.
