Anderlecht coach Riemer: “Unbelievable that AZ has so much self-confidence”

Tomorrow AZ will receive the Belgian Anderlecht in return of the quarterfinals of the Conference League. To convert, the Alkmaarders must make up for a 2-0 defeat from the first leg. AZ would like to take an example in their own stadium from Genk, who scored five times against Anderlecht last weekend.

At the closing press conference Brian Riemer, Anderlecht’s coach, was asked about AZ’s apparent lack of fear for his team. “It is unbelievable that AZ has so much self-confidence,” said Riemer. “But that’s good to hear. Like any other team, they will have a battle plan tomorrow. I would do that too if I were the trainer of AZ.”

“Very interesting that the Dutch newspapers paid so much attention to us”

After the end of the 2-0 defeat in Brussels the Dutch press was critical of AZ, but also little praise for Anderlecht. “I find it very interesting that the Dutch newspapers paid so much attention to us last week. I see it as a compliment that they wrote about our level in that match. I leave it to the analysts what they think of us. I was in Anyway, very happy with our performance last week.”

The match between AZ and Anderlecht starts tomorrow at 6.45 pm. The stadium in Alkmaar is sold out.
