Ancelotti’s anger after losing the lead and conceding Madrid’s first defeat in the League

Carlo Ancelotti I was angry. He lived in Vallecas his worst night of the season. And not only because he conceded the defeat against Rayo that made him lose the lead at the hands of Barça (he has two points ahead of Xavi’s team) but because he detected things that he did not like at all. “It was a bad night, we are upset about the defeat, we just reached the break,” the Italian coach began by saying.

“It was known that they played like that, it is not a difficult game to analyze. They have been more forceful than us in the duels”, Ancelotti acknowledged, revealing the message he conveyed to his players. “What I have told them is what I have told you, that lack of forcefulness and when you don’t have the attitude, quality is not only what allows you to win the game”, added the white coach.

Not even coming back from the game in just six final minutes of the first half calmed Madrid down. The initial 45 minutes ended with a draw (2-2) and then, already in the second half, Rayo was once again much better than Madrid. “We have lost many balls, we have not, moreover, taken the ball well from behind”, acknowledged the Italian coach.

More shots on goal by Rayo

Rayo played better. Rayo had more personality than Madrid. Rayo finished more on goal (seven against the two white shots, both from set pieces, a penalty and a corner) and even disputed the ball: 45% possession compared to 55% for Real Madrid.

“We needed freshness and legs, but we haven’t had them. It’s not a good moment like before, but it’s quite normal, although we’re disappointed because we’ve lost the lead”

Ancelotti, Madrid coach

“At the level of quality we have dropped a bit & rdquor ;, Ancelotti has confessed about the lack of forcefulness of his forward. “Rodrygo has missed two or three shots that he usually puts in. No, it has not been a good game. We have suffered, we are not fresh like before”, added the white coach.

“We needed freshness and legs, but we haven’t had them. It’s not a good time like before, but it’s quite normal, although we’re disappointed because we’ve lost the lead. But the League is very long”, Ancelotti said, indicating that “I don’t think that the World Cup hasn’t affected me because I see the players focused and they try, but things don’t turn out the way you want”.

Ancelotti wanted to extol Marco Asensio’s game (“he did well”), while emphasizing the poor performance of Vinicius and Rodrygo. “The level of the other two was lower than normal”.
