It was a warm late summer day, baby in the baby carrier, toddler on the scooter. Do some shopping. And then soon home for the afternoon sleep.

My tired toddler thought differently. “No!”, No step further. I threw all my charms and bribery into battle. In vain. We crashed on a bench next to a primary school.

It was almost half past twelve, the group of parents in the schoolyard grew. Light discomfort in my body. Still many spectators of my struggle to get home.

Unknown woman

There a mother arrived with a paper bag from the baker. She brought out a large egg cake. “After each snack one step!” A cake for my toddler and a wink for me.

And there we went again … Step for snack on the way home.

Do you know what I think? We need each other. You don’t raise children alone, you can use all the help. I gratefully think back to this unknown woman. A small moment, but I felt behaved and that made a big difference.

So here a ‘real life’ call to action: consider this again if you see a parent struggling in the supermarket or on the street. Do you think sweet words? Then say them out loud!

A wink is already doing wonders.
