At the beginning of March, a suspected racist incident occurred in the Finnish Under-20s Finland series.

The referee report between Naantali’s VG-62 and Ulöjärvi uplakers tells the UPLAKERS dark-skinned player reporting to the referees about racist screaming in a hiatus. The case was recorded and reported for further processing.

Iltalehti reached that 18-year-old player. He tells the hockey match that the opponent has shouted racist tones as the match progresses.

– In the past, mutual head openings had occurred. There was nothing bad about it. There was an error in the first round. I lifted my hand up for a sign. The opponent’s bench was first shouting and then a sound that sounded like a monkey imitating.

The player himself did not hear the situation during the match, but the voice suitable for the description can be heard from the video recording of the match.

Iltalehti has seen both a match judge report and a match recording of the situation where the exchange is made by that.

Sound in the booth

Later, the mouth of the Uplakers player went too far.

– During the second break, I walked towards the locker room when I heard an opponent’s booth and the animal’s sound. They were clearly targeted to me. Then I went to the door of the opponent’s booth and had to pull the racism card. I also told the judges and the opponent team coach who promised to talk to his team.

In the third round, racist crying was no longer occurred. But I did not have any apologies.

– No one dared to apologize and admit that they had done the wrong thing. I later called the opponent team leadership and asked if the investigation had progressed. No shouters have been found, but he apologized to me.

The Uplakers player says he understands that the emotions in the rink are hot and the language is sometimes strong. But he does not accept such behavior.

– This is annoying, but I won’t go into pieces. Above all, I want to reveal the case and remind you that such a cry is by no means acceptable or at all on hockey.

Iltalehti reached the chairman of the VG-62 Hans Österholm.

– This is the disciplinary processing of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association. We look forward to their decision before any further action within the club, says Österholm.

Chairman of the Disciplinary Board of the Ice Hockey Association Eemeli Saros Comment on the process. He does not confirm whether there was a matter for these teams.

– This season, we have begun publishing decisions on an anonymous way on the union’s website. The list is updated as decisions are made, Saros tells Iltalehti.

There is no decision in the list of disciplinary decisions on the union’s website disciplinary decisions at the time of writing.
